Three Components of Ranking
The SEO process involves three entities: The searcher, the search engine andthe web site owner.
The searcher goes to the search engine to find websites relevant to their needs.
The search engine charges businesses to advertise on their pages, and their popularity with searchers determines how much money they make.
So, they want to make sure the sites delivered on the search engine results page (SERP) is exactly what the searcher needs.
Relevance of the Site
Since the relevance of your site is the most important aspect of getting search engine traffic, it should be your first focus.
Every page title, header, file name, alt text and content should have keywords relevant to each other.
You need to develop a reputation of sorts, which done two ways:
By having relevant content and by having relevant links into and out of your site.
Relevance of Content
Your site content should be relevant to the overall theme of your site and the topic of that page.
Making sure it is engaging and readable is critical to making your visitors want to read it, but the keywords used are the main things that make the search engines send people to your web site.
Links That Work
Inbound links from another URL, show they respect you since they are basically referring their visitors to you.
Outbound links show that you have done your homework and want to quote other authorities on your subject.
Although links on other sites of non-relevant themes can help ranking slightly, your goal should be to have links from (and to) sites which are closely related to your subject matter.
Serve Value to Visitors
As the search engines strive to serve their users with the search results most relevant to the keywords and phrases they use, the sites with the most useful, relevant information will rank higher than other websites which do not.
So, in a nut shell, if you want to get higher results on the search engine results pages, you have to give their users what they want: quality service by delivering great content and relevant outbound links.
